His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS), President of Bahrain Athletics Association, congratulated Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King, and President of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), on the 15th anniversary of SCW, which is the primary engine for the development of women in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
SCYS Chairman stressed that since its inception, the SCW has been playing a key role in supporting women and empowering them to contribute in the development of the Kingdom, which highlights their role in the community. The SCW also contributed to preserving women’s right and providing them with stability, and gave them the opportunity to be a major partner with their male brothers in the process of building the community, by holding various posts in organizations, ministries and the public sector. This achieves the goals of the reform project laid by His Majesty, King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, Ruler of the the Kingdom of Bahrain, May God Protect Him, in supporting women and giving them rights to reach leadership positions and contribute in developing the precious Kingdom.
SCYS Chairman said: “We are happy with what the Bahraini women have achieved in the field of sports in terms of their participation which clearly reflect on the wide leadership’s care for women and for their role in various sectors, especially the youth and sports sectors.”
SCYS Chairman said this in reference to the Kingdom’s historic achievement at the Rio 2016 Olympics through sprinter Ruth Jebet, who won the gold medal in the women’s 3000m race and sprinter Eunice Kirwa who won the silver medal in the women’s marathon, as well as the achievement of winning a silver medal through Mariam Jamal in the London 2012 Olympics, who is the first Arab woman to achieve this result. In addition, HH also mentioned the results and achievements that put the Kingdom of Bahrain in the league with developed countries.
He also pointed out that the achievements by Bahraini women in sports are an extension to their achievements in various posts, which raises the presence of Bahraini women on a regional, Asian and global levels. His Highness wished for more success and excellence to the Bahraini women.
